The Catawba County Council for the
Arts
Welcome to Catawba County! I hope you will enjoy your stay here. Having
"transplanted" here myself as a new bride 24 years ago, I believe you will find
the Catawba citizens to be very gracious and helpful in any way possible.
I would like to invite you to take advantage of the highly acclaimed cultural
community here in Catawba County. We have everything from two theatres (the
Green Room Community Theatre and the Hickory Community Theatre) to a volunteer
choral society (Hickory Choral Society) that has traveled and performed in the
United Kingdom. Catawba County is also fortunate to have the Catawba Science
Center that boasts the acquisition of the MarsQuest traveling exhibit and the
Hickory Museum of Art which is the second oldest museum in North Carolina and
that houses an extensive collections of American art. The region's premier
performing symphony (Western Piedmont Symphony) is also housed in Catawba County
as well as two highly acclaimed historical organizations (the Catawba County
Historical Association and the Hickory Landmarks Society).
As the home county of the only authorized Jugtown with a post office, Catawba
County boasts a large and highly diverse population of potters. There are also
many highly acclaimed visual artists who call Catawba County home. Many of the
art shops found throughout Catawba County carry objects d'art produced by these
artists for sale. As you will note on our Website, links are provided to many of
the cultural organizations as well as a current cultural calendar of events,
which is updated quarterly.
I hope you will be able to take some time and browse around our county. We are a
cultural adventure just waiting for you to explore. Come join us! There is
something for everyone.
Sincerely,
Susan W. Proctor
